See the Guide to Appealing a Case ( PDF) for information about these kinds of appeals. If there was a mistake, it must have been important enough that it could have made a difference in the outcome of the case. The appeal must be based on the record created in the trial court, and the person who is appealing must show that the trial court made a mistake. The appellate court does not retry the case, take evidence, or weigh the credibility of witnesses. This kind of appeal is a review by the supreme court or court of appeals to determine if the juvenile or district court made a legal mistake.
